Biohome Ultimate is essentially the same as Biohome Mini Ultra, but it contains added trace elements that make good bacteria grow much faster. Just like the Mini Ultra, it has a porosity of no less than 50%. You can see for yourself how extremely absorbent Biohome Ultimate is by submerging one side in water. You’ll be amazed at how quickly the water is drawn up the entire length of the filter media. Thanks to its structure, the filter media has an extremely large contact surface (inside and outside) where good bacteria can develop.
As the name suggests, Biohome Ultimate is the best available biological filter media in the market. Because of its unique composition and extremely large contact surface, along with the added trace elements, it’s more capable of removing ammonia, nitrite, AND nitrate from the water than any other brand.
Other brands are only able to remove ammonia and nitrite, but Biohome Ultimate allows both nitrifying (aerobic) and de-nitrifying (anaerobic) bacteria to colonize due to its unique structure. The nitrifying bacteria break down ammonia and nitrite. Thanks to the de-nitrifying bacteria, you can create full cycle filtration which also breaks down nitrate. This results in better water quality, so fewer water changes are required.
Good bacteria colonize extremely fast with Biohome Filter Media. Normally it takes 14 to 21 days for nitrifying/aerobic bacteria and 4 to 6 months for de-nitrifying/anaerobic bacteria. In variants with added trace elements, this process is even faster. It also recovers quickly, for example after the use of medication, and can be easily transferred to other filter systems.
Biohome Ultimate is made of very high (industrial) quality material, so it lasts a very long time. A long working life and reliability are hallmarks of all Biohome products.
Biohome Ultimate works extremely efficiently, but this requires good mechanical filtration to ensure a constant water flow. If the water is not first properly mechanically filtered, dirt and sludge can clog the open structure, which will greatly reduce efficiency. That is why we always recommend that you build your filter as follows: first mechanical filtration, then biological filtration and finally chemical filtration (if necessary). Biohome Ultimate is sold per 1 kg. This is equivalent to about 1.25 liters.
For best results, we recommend about 1 kg per 100 liters of aquarium water (for an aquarium with a normal number of fish). A more heavily occupied aquarium may require about 1.5 to 2 kg per 100 liters to achieve full cycle filtration (including reducing nitrate).
All Biohome products can easily be used in combination with pH increasing or decreasing products. The added trace elements are intended to promote the growth of good bacteria and do not affect water composition.
